The Deangate Community Parkland will form an important part of the overall Strategic Environmental Management Strategy. This will provide a network of open spaces designed to protect wildlife and ecology, while also creating new public open spaces for residents.
We’re running a six-week consultation starting today on plans for improve the green space at Deangate Ridge – the site of the former golf course.
You'll have the opportunity to have your say on the latest plans before a planning application is submitted to create the new parkland. We’re currently exploring funding options to bring forward this exciting project.
The improvements that local residents and visitors can enjoy will include:
• New picnic areas
• Improved access to amazing viewpoints across the grasslands
• New cycle paths
• New paths for walkers and dog walkers
• New public signage providing info on the local habitats that are based at the site.
Deangate Ridge plays home to a range of wildlife, including nightingales pipistrelle bats, slow worms and great crested newts. Among the improvements to protect these important habitats will include enhanced woodland blocks of trees. Larger areas of open meadow will also be retained with an aim to establish more species of wildlife in the grasslands.
