Station Road Emergency Closures
Frindsbury Parish Council has demanded urgent clarity over the ongoing road closures affecting Station Road, Strood.
The latest closure affects one of the main travel routes through the Medway towns causing significant traffic and misery for local businesses and residents.
Emergency gas works have been cited as the reason for the latest closure.
Chairman of the Parish Council Christopher Sparks said:
“When emergency works become this regular, serious questions need to be asked about how effective the situation is being managed.
No one likes roadworks, but we accept the need to keep vital infrastructure in the safest condition possible.
However, the latest round of roadworks shows a disregard for both residents and the term ‘emergency’.
If this is an emergency – why is it taking so long? If it is serious enough, why is it happening again?”
Frindsbury Parish council is calling for meaningful engagement and updates, from both SGN and Medway Council to be distributed to local communities.
Cllr Sparkes continued,
“If such critical work is regularly needed, then it should be questioned what is going wrong. We cannot keep having one service provider causing significant disruption to an entire town, and just claiming “emergency” with no further updates.”
